HC Deb 29 June 1966 vol 730 c1779
22. Mr. Kershaw

asked the Minister of Transport what proposals she has for local subsidies for railway lines which do not pay their way.

Mrs. Castle

This is one of the ideas I have been examining in my review of transport policy, but I would prefer not to comment on it in advance of my forthcoming White Paper.

Mr. Kershaw

Does the Minister propose to subsidise passenger tickets, and especially season tickets? Secondly, if private organisations wish to take over lines which do not pay, will the right hon. Lady enable them to do so, provided safety can be adequately assured?

Mrs. Castle

I should certainly be interested in any proposals put to me under the second heading. As for the first point, I have nothing to add to my original Answer.
