asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what considerations led him to exclude an amalgamation of the Metropolitan Police and the City of London Police from his police amalgamation schemes announced to Parliament on 18th May.

The power contained in the Police Act, 1964, to amalgamate police areas applies to counties and county boroughs and does not extend to the Metropolitan Police District or the City of London.
