HC Deb 16 June 1966 vol 729 cc1645-6
41. Mr. Arnold Shaw

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will now make arrangements to relieve teachers of all duties in connection with school meals.

Mr. Redhead

No, Sir. The arrangements in force for the supervision of school meals were agreed with local education authorities and the teachers' associ- ations, and they are designed not to involve individual teachers in unreasonable burdens.

Mr. Shaw

Would not my right hon. Friend agree that if something were done in this direction teachers would be assured of the real intentions of the right hon. Gentleman in the use of auxiliaries in schools?

Mr. Redhead

The positon is well understood by the teachers' associations, in that they were parties to the agreement and know how this works in practice in its application by local education authorities.
