HC Deb 15 June 1966 vol 729 cc1442-3
22. Mr. Galbraith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the cost of dualling the Ayr Road from Eastwood Toll to the end of the 30 m.p.h. limit.

Mr. Ross

The total estimated cost of this work to the end of the dual carriageway is about £1,273,000.

Mr. Galbraith

That is a very substantial sum of money. In view of the amount of money spent in dualling that road, does not he think that it is time that the speed limit was increased from 30 m.p.h. to 40 m.p.h.?

Mr. Ross

On the question of the cost of the road, the hon. Member had better re-examine the files in the Scottish Office. It may be that he was not unconnected with the Department at the time. In answer to the second part of his supplementary question, I have already given notice of my intention to raise the limit to 40 m.p.h.
