HC Deb 27 July 1966 vol 732 c1704
8. Sir F. Maclean

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what progress has been made with plans for building a bridge across the Kyles of Bute.

Dr. Dickson Mahon

A technical panel set up by the county councils of Argyll and Bute started six months ago to investigate the problems of a permanent crossing.

Sir F. Maclean

Can the hon. Gentleman give any idea yet of what the cost is likely to be?

Dr. Mabon

I regret that I cannot. The panel consists of officials of both counties and a consulting engineer and a bridge engineer from the Scottish Development Department. There are a number of possibilities—a high-level bridge, a low-level bridge, and so on—which may mean a fairly thorough investigation. I regret that I cannot give an estimate of how much it may cost.
