HC Deb 27 July 1966 vol 732 c1720

44. Mr. Whitaker asked the Attorney-General whether he is aware that treasonable or seditious statements were made in the area of the Albert Hall on the evening of 21st July, 1966; whether he will instruct the Director of Public Prosecutions to institute proceedings in this case; and whether he will make a statement.

The Attorney-General

I have asked the Director of Public Prosecutions for a report on this matter.

Mr. Whitaker

I sympathise with the right hon. Member for Streatham (Mr. Sandys) in the fact that he was shouted down for being too Left-wing, but does not my right hon. and learned Friend agree that it is deplorable that a meeting should be held urging support for an illegal racialist rebellion by an audience which The Times said consisted of Nazis Fascists?

The Attorney-General

I have said that I have asked the Director for a report. In the circumstances, it would not be proper for me to comment on the matter.
