§ 5. Mr. Arthur Davidsonasked the Minister of Land and Natural Resources when he expects to receive a report from the Committee of Inquiry into allotments.
§ Mr. SkeffingtonWithin two years' time.
§ Mr. DavidsonI am grateful to my hon. Friend for his reply, but will he consider legislation to amend Section 8 of the Allotments Act to enable 99-year leases to be accepted as adequate security of tenure?
§ Mr. SkeffingtonThis is one matter which will be reviewed by my right hon. Friend.
§ Mr. RipponCan the Minister say why this will take so long?
§ Mr. SkeffingtonThis is the first review of allotments and, as the right hon. and learned Gentleman knows, the Committee's terms of reference are fairly wide, namely, to consider
the social, economic, recreational, legal, planning and landscape aspects of allotmentsand in view of the fact that evidence has to be taken and various sites have to be visited, also that the Committee is doing its work thoroughly, and that a number of members are busy persons, I should not think that this was an unduly long period.
