§ 14. Mr. Randallasked the Postmaster-General what progress has been made with the experiment to provide special public telephones for emergency calls.
§ Mr. Edward ShortThree of these telephones have been on trial for two months: two in Scotland and one near the junction of the Catterick-by-Pass and the Al main road. It is too early as yet to say how far they meet a need.
§ Mr. RandallCan my right hon. Friend give any indication whether it is intended to extend this number? I note that there are two in Scotland and one in England. Why?
§ Mr. ShortThis is a trial. If it is felt that special public telephones fill a need, we shall certainly extend them. They are an interesting experiment and are first-rate instruments. I hope that they will prove a success and can be introduced widely throughout the country.
