asked the Postmaster-General how many applications for telephones are outstanding in the Medway telephone exchange area.

Mr. Joseph Slater

1,818 at 31st May, 1966, not counting orders under inquiry or being met. Nearly 3,000 new connections were provided in the previous 12 months.

I thank my hon. Friend for those figures. Could he say whether any further provision is being made for equipment in this area?

Relief schemes are in hand for all the exchanges and, for the benefit of my hon. Friend, I will send him particulars.
