HC Deb 12 July 1966 vol 731 cc1207-8
31. Mr. Brooks

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what arrangements exist to effect examination by Her Majesty's Customs and Excise of persons entering this country from those vessels moored off the British coast which are engaged upon radio transmissions to this country.

Mr. MacDermot

They are subject to the usual Customs controls and no duty-free allowances are given.

Mr. Brooks

Is my right hon. Friend entirely satisfied that the radio pirates are not also smugglers? Can he assure the House that there is no selective entry tax upon visitors to this country from overseas?

Mr. MacDermot

The Customs are satisfied that they are exercising adequate control over these ships. There have been one or two unauthorised landings, but these have been adequately dealt with.
