HC Deb 12 July 1966 vol 731 cc1208-9
33. Mr. van Straubenzee

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when he anticipates the current shortage of Inland Revenue staff will enable the case to be presented in respect of the rating assessment for flats in Wokingham Borough which was originally lodged on 25th March, 1964.

Mr. MacDermot

The valuation officer hopes to meet council officials soon with a view to reaching agreement on values. The delay was not primarily due to staff shortage.

Mr. van Straubenzee

Does the hon. and learned Gentleman realise that his information is in direct conflict with my own personal information which has been very carefully checked? Is this not a reflection of the immense burden placed on Inland Revenue staff by present legislation?

Mr. MacDermot

The hon. Gentleman's view is directly contrary to my information, which is that the valuation officer has been awaiting a decision of the local valuation court—which is now to hand—on the general basis of the valuation of local authority flats in the area.
