HC Deb 07 July 1966 vol 731 cc655-6
21. Mr. Henry Clark

asked the First Secretary of State and Secretary of State for Economic Affairs what is the estimated value of industrial production lost in consequence of the seamen's strike; and how many man-days have been lost due to lay-offs.

Mr. Albu

I cannot express the loss in industrial production in figures, but for the country as a whole it has been relatively small.

Mr. Clark

May I suggest to the hon. Gentleman that it might be worth while to take some pains to find out this figure and publicise it because of the considerable damage that was caused to the nation?

Mr. Albu

The Question the hon. Gentleman asked was about industrial production, and I answered that. However, the effect on the economy has been quite serious from the point of view of our inability to keep to export delivery dates and so on, and nobody would deny that.
