HC Deb 28 February 1966 vol 725 cc875-6
3. Mr. Blaker

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what new proposals have been put forward by Her Majesty's Government at the current session of the 18-Nation Disarmament Conference in Geneva.

Mr. M. Stewart

Her Majesty's Government are contributing to the discussions on disarmament as they develop at the 18-Nation Disarmament Committee. In particular, we are determined to do all we can to forward agreement on the question of a non-proliferation treaty to which we attach the highest priority and to which the Committee has now turned its attention.

Mr. Blaker

Is it not a fact that the Government have not put forward a single new proposal in the whole field of disarmament since they assumed office? What has happened to their election promises?

Mr. Stewart

I think that, with the way the Disarmament Conference is now going at Geneva, it is more sensible and more productive to make an extensive study of existing proposals.
