HC Deb 22 February 1966 vol 725 c233
Q9. Mr. Bryan

asked the Prime Minister whether the public speech on the Rent Act by the Minister of Housing and Local Government at Swansea on Friday, 10th December, 1965, represents Her Majesty's Government's policy.

Mr. George Brown

I have been asked to reply.

Yes, Sir.

Mr. Bryan

Does the right hon. Gentleman recall that in this speech the Minister of Housing and Local Government said that he thought that the Government were doing pretty well in holding prices? However he is doing, does the right hon. Gentleman think that he is carrying out to the letter what he suggested at the election time, which was that the cost of living …can and must and will be held.

Mr. Brown

And despite the obstruction from over there, it is.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

Did the speech also indicate that the Government had earned out their pledge to introduce 3 per cent. mortgages?

Mr. Brown

The speech made it quite clear that we will implement all our pledges.
