§ 5. Mr. Longdenasked the First Secretary of State and Secretary of State for Economic Affairs what report he has received from the Working Party of the British Paper and Board Makers' Association on future supplies of waste paper; and what action he proposes to take to maintain and increase such supplies.
§ Mr. AlbuMy right hon. Friend has recently received the Report of this Working Party, which was set up by the Economic Development Committee for the Paper and Board Industry.
The Report, which will be issued, makes a number of valuable recommendations for action both by the industry 587 and by Government. The Chairman of the Economic Development Committee has been told that the Government accepts the Report's recommendations.
§ Mr. LongdenI thank the hon. Gentleman for that reply. Would he not agree that the incentives of an assured market and an adequate return on ratepayers' capital investments are absolutely essential if the local authorities are to play their part in maintaining these supplies?
§ Mr. AlbuThose are very important considerations which will be taken into account by the local authorities when considering the Working Party's Report.
