HC Deb 07 December 1966 vol 737 c1339
21. Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Postmaster-General why he will not assist the sale of British products and the balance of payments by instituting a "Buy British" postmark.

Mr. Edward Short

The Government welcome action by industry to emphasise the merits of British products, but they do not consider that a "Buy British" postmark would help in this process. Successful advertising has to be directed at the sales of particular products. The institution of an undirected postmark of this kind would, we believe, not be very productive.
