HC Deb 06 December 1966 vol 737 cc1126-7
15. Mr. Ridsdale

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what steps he proposes to take to help those local authorities which have had a large increase in population over the last 10 years and where larger increases are planned for the next 10 years.

Mr. MacColl

Substantial assistance is given under the new towns and town development legislation, and my right hon. Friend is not so far convinced that any additional assistance would be warranted.

Mr. Ridsdale

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that in areas such as North-East Essex which have had almost the equivalent of a new town, we are most anxious about being given a loan sanction for new sewerage facilities, for example, and, although we realise the need for economy, we want the Minister to look into the matter sympathetically?

Mr. MacColl

My right hon. Friend gives special attention to loan sanctions in areas of development.
