§ 24. Mr. Channonasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will now announce the date of the introduction of the mortgage option scheme; and when he estimates it will be operating.
§ Mr. GreenwoodThe option mortgage scheme is provided for in Part II of the Housing Subsidies Bill introduced yesterday. A White Paper was published with the Bill describing the scheme. The proposal is that it will come into operation on 1st April, 1968.
§ Mr. ChannonDoes not the right hon. Gentleman agree that it is disappointing that, after years of promises by Ministers, the scheme will not come into force until 1st April, 1968, which will be nearly four years after the Government took office?
§ Mr. GreenwoodYes, it is extremely disappointing. The Bill is about 16 years too late.
