§ 13. Mr. Jacksonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what progress has been made in rehousing those British subjects who earlier this year were forced to leave the Campo area in Spain.
§ Mrs. WhiteWith two exceptions all families with children have now been moved into cubicle accommodation. Only single men and married people without children remain in dormitories.
§ Mr. JacksonHas my hon. Friend taken note of the two letters I forwarded to her from Gibraltarians? Can she assure us that those persons resident in the Campo area who have been dispossessed will not be required to live indefinitely in squalor as a result of their loyalty to Britain?
§ Mrs. WhiteI have received the letters. I am much concerned about the conditions of the families to which my hon. Friend refers. However, one must, on the other hand, remind oneself that there are people in Gibraltar who also need housing accommodation and that one must bear their interests in mind as well as those who have had to come across the frontier.
§ Mr. AmeryMay I take this opportunity to assure the hon. Lady that when my hon. Friend the Member for Surbiton (Mr. Fisher) and I went to Gibraltar together we were deeply impressed by the work that the Gibraltar Government were doing on housing problems, especially for the refugees?
§ Mrs. WhiteI am sure that the right hon. Gentleman's remarks will be much appreciated.
