HC Deb 11 May 1965 vol 712 c257
24. Mr. Shepherd

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he is aware that concern caused by Manchester overspill development arises from unsatisfactory layout and design; and whether he will use his good offices to ensure that, consistent with cost factors, only the most acceptable form of development is pursued.

Mr. MacColl

My right hon. Friend is as concerned as the hon. Member that overspill developments for Manchester should be designed to the highest standards; and so is the city council.

Mr. Shepherd

Will the hon. Gentleman take a close personal interest in this matter, since the best interests of overspill areas and Manchester will be served by maintaining the highest possible level of design?

Mr. MacColl

As I think the hon. Gentleman knows, Manchester City Council is consulting the county council, particularly about Wilmslow, on getting good schemes prepared.
