§ 1. Mr. Hoosonasked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make a further statement on the proposed new town for Mid-Wales.
§ The Secretary of State for Wales (Mr. James Griffiths)I have received the proposals of the Welsh Planning Board for dealing with the problems of Mid-Wales and after I have considered these with my colleagues, I shall make a statement about the proposed new town.
§ Mr. HoosonWill the Minister bear in mind that local councils, and so on, are asked to pass opinions on the proposed new town, and that it is very difficult for them to do so without knowing the alternative possible sites for the town, the proposed size of it, and other such information which enables an enlightened debate to take place on the proposal? Can the right hon. Gentleman give the House any idea of when he will be able to publish the considered views of his Department on this problem?
§ Mr. GriffithsI am conscious of the concern of local authorities, and indeed of other people in Mid-Wales. I hope to make my statement very shortly, certainly before the House rises for the Easter Recess.
§ Sir K. JosephDoes the right hon. Gentleman propose to publish this report'?
§ Mr. GriffithsNo, Sir. It is a report to me as Secretary of State, and to my right hon. Friend the First Secretary of State. I shall consider it and then make a statement about the Government's policy.
