HC Deb 11 March 1965 vol 708 c603
12. Mr. Box

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what plans he has to assist the Industrial Exhibition of Wales in promoting greater interest in the industries of Wales.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts

My right hon. Friend has indicated to the organisers that he hopes to visit this exhibition. I also hope to do so.

Mr. Box

Is not the Minister rather ashamed of that reply? Is he aware that this is quite the most ambitious exhibition of its sort that has been undertaken in Wales? It is designed to promote both internal trade and the export trade of Wales, and I believe that it is to be opened by the right hon. Gentleman. Does the hon. Gentleman think it right that this important exhibition should be treated with contempt—as it is being treated with contempt—by the nationalised industries? Will he ask them to reconsider their approach to this important project?

Mr. Roberts

The latter part of the supplementary question is for the nationalised industries or the Government Departments concerned. As for the earlier part of the question, the organisers of the exhibition have already said that the interest so far shown in their venture by the Secretary of State has proved very helpful to them.
