3. Mr. Clifford Williamsasked the Secretary of State for Wales when he expects to receive the report from the Welsh Planning Board on communications in Wales.
§ The Minister of State, Welsh Office (Mr. Goronwy Roberts)My right hon. Friend expects to receive a report on this subject before the end of July.
Mr. WilliamsWhile thanking my hon. Friend for that reply, may I ask whether the report will cover the desperate need for improvements in road communications in the industrial valley areas of South Wales.
§ Mr. RobertsI am well aware of my hon. Friend's keen interest in this important matter, but, as he knows, the Heads of the Valleys Road Scheme is now nearing completion and my right hon. Friend is very anxious to consider other road improvements which will link the North with this system and the South with the coastal system.
§ Mr. HoosonIs the Welsh Planning Board also considering the urgent necessity of improving communications between North and South Wales? As the hon. Gentleman knows, it is very difficult to go from one part to the other. The road journey takes a long time. Is progress being made on the North-South Wales trunk road?
§ Mr. RobertsThe original Question related to communications in Wales, and that, of course, includes communications between North and South Wales. That aspect of the matter will certainly not be neglected.
