HC Deb 14 June 1965 vol 714 cc27-8
31. Mr. Ridsdale

asked the Minister of Labour when he expects the Royal Com- mission on Trade Unions to complete its work.

Mr. Thornton

It is impossible to say at this stage. I am sure that the Commission will report as quickly as it can, but it must have the time to carry out its work properly.

Mr. Ridsdale

As this is going to take such a long time, what are the Government going to do in view of strikes such as the wild-cat strike at London Airport? Surely the time has come to introduce legislation at once to make contracts legally binding on employers and employees?

Mr. Thornton

The strike was to be deplored, I agree, but again I must ask hon. Members opposite to keep these problems in perspective. They do not do our country any good by exaggerating the incidence of these strikes or the effect they have upon our economy.
