HC Deb 01 June 1965 vol 713 c1517
Mr. Godber

(by Private Notice) asked the Minister of Labour whether he will make a statement about the position in the dispute in the South Wales coalfield.

The Minister of Labour (Mr. R. J. Gunter)

I have been informed of this dispute by the National Coal Board, and I am keeping in close touch with development. Meetings are taking place today, and I propose to review the outcome tonight. I would propose to take immediate action if that is necessary.

Mr. Godber

I am sure that the whole House will be glad to note the actions which the Minister is taking, and that we would not wish in any way to embarrass him in the difficult negotiations he is having. I think that the whole House feels that this dispute has grown out of all proportion to the causes which originated it and that we all wish the right hon. Gentleman well in solving it.
