§ 8. Mr. Tilneyasked the Minister of Overseas Development how many pensioners there are of the old Colonial or Overseas Civil Service living in Great Britain whose pensions do not attract United Kingdom Income Tax but now attract Ghana Income Tax.
§ Mr. TilneyDoes not this show that the Minister is out of touch with servants and past servants of the Crown, and is not this very reprehensible?
§ Mr. OramIt does not show anything of the kind. The fact is that the tax position of each pensioner depends on his total income, and not simply on his pension. The Ministry does not know, and has no right to inquire into, the total income of each pensioner.
§ Mr. TilneyWill the hon. Gentleman take action if facts are given to him by the Overseas Pensioners' Organisation?
§ Mr. OramWe have had representations from that organisation, and we are always willing to listen to what it has to say.
