HC Deb 26 July 1965 vol 717 c26
33. Mr. Edward M. Taylor

asked the Minister of Labour if he will give the numbers of young people who entered apprenticeships for skilled trades in each of the last five years; and what are the figures in respect of Scotland.

Mr. Gunter

As the reply consists of a table of figures, I will, with permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Mr. Taylor

Does the Minister recall that on 9th November he said that he would look at the question of apprenticeships in shipbuilding, where the ratio of apprentices to journeymen had declined from a figure of one to 3.8 in 1954 to one to almost five journeymen in 1964? Has the right hon. Gentleman looked at the position, and what has he seen?

Mr. Gunter
