§ 37. Mr. Wallaceasked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will issue a White Paper dealing with the co-ordination of local authority, health, welfare and children's services.
§ Mr. HoughtonNo, Sir.
§ Mr. WallaceIs my right hon. Friend aware of the considerable overlapping of local authority welfare services and of the urgent need for co-ordination in order to avoid wasted effort?
§ Mr. HoughtonYes, Sir. We are fully aware of the problems connected with the organisation of social services at local level and we are considering these matters, but I cannot make a further statement today.
§ Mr. PavittWill my right hon. Friend look at a further problem, which is the way in which general practitioners, who sometimes claim to be the leaders of the health team, should be co-ordinated, although under executive councils, with social welfare and health workers of local authorities?
§ Mr. HoughtonYes, Sir. I seem to have a lot of co-ordination on my hands. I shall include the suggestion of my hon. Friend.
