HC Deb 26 July 1965 vol 717 cc31-2
37. Mr. Wallace

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will issue a White Paper dealing with the co-ordination of local authority, health, welfare and children's services.

Mr. Houghton

No, Sir.

Mr. Wallace

Is my right hon. Friend aware of the considerable overlapping of local authority welfare services and of the urgent need for co-ordination in order to avoid wasted effort?

Mr. Houghton

Yes, Sir. We are fully aware of the problems connected with the organisation of social services at local level and we are considering these matters, but I cannot make a further statement today.

Mr. Pavitt

Will my right hon. Friend look at a further problem, which is the way in which general practitioners, who sometimes claim to be the leaders of the health team, should be co-ordinated, although under executive councils, with social welfare and health workers of local authorities?

Mr. Houghton

Yes, Sir. I seem to have a lot of co-ordination on my hands. I shall include the suggestion of my hon. Friend.
