HC Deb 21 July 1965 vol 716 c1739
Mr. Thornton

I beg to move, Amendment No. 42, Clause 17, in page 14, line 40, after "payment", to insert: otherwise than in pursuance of a decision of a tribunal which specifies the amount of the payment to be made". This is a simple tidying-up Amendment. Clause 17(1) requires the employer to give the employee a written statement indicating how the amount of the redundancy payment has been calculated. However, where a tribunal decides that an employee should receive a certain sum of money, it does not seem appropriate or necessary to supply the usual explanatory statement. The tribunal, rather than the employer, would have worked out the amount due, and the tribunal's decision would, of course, be communicated to the worker. The Amendment, therefore, relieves the employer of his obligation to supply a a statement in this case.

Amendment agreed to.
