§ 16. Mr. Fellasked the Minister of Health how many old people have been rehoused since 1950, and how many are being cared for in hostels under the Great Yarmouth local authority; and what are the comparable figures for the Norfolk County Council area of administration.
§ Mr. LoughlinThe numbers of old people rehoused are not recorded, but between 1st January, 1950, and 31st March, 1965, 676 one-bedroom flats and bungalows suitable for old people were built by Great Yarmouth County Borough Council, and 2,715 by borough and district councils in the county of Norfolk. On 31st December, 1964, 174 elderly people were in residential accommodation in the care of Great Yarmouth County Borough Council, and 845 in the care of Norfolk County Council.
§ Mr. FellI am grateful to the Minister for that reply, which, a hope he will agree with me, shows that Yarmouth is doing pretty well in view of the differentials in the population figures.
§ Mr. LoughlinYes. If one takes the percentage related to the figures I have 1095 given, it is quite clear that the percentage for Great Yarmouth of elderly persons in special warden service, housing and residential homes is higher than it is in Norfolk.
