§ 25. Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will now make a statement on the results of his appeal to married women teachers to return to teaching.
§ Mr. CroslandThe current campaign began only on 14th March and it is too early for the results to show more than marginally in the latest figures of recruitment for the four months ending 31st May last. Nevertheless, 5 per cent. more women returned to teaching during this period than in the same four months of the previous year, and the increase in the numbers returning to part-time service—about 15 per cent.—was particularly encouraging.
