HC Deb 21 January 1965 vol 705 c388
13. Mr. Hopkins

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will continue to encourage the promotion of courses in secondary modern schools leading to General Certificate of Education O-level, and the transfer of suitable pupils from such schools to grammar schools.

Mr. M. Stewart

Yes, Sir. So long as we have separately organised schools it is clearly right that the modern schools should do everything they can for all the levels of ability for which they provide.

Mr. Hopkins

Is the Minister aware that that is a most encouraging Answer and more or less disagrees with what he said in the debate on 27th November? Will he take note that we on this side of the House are just as much interested in secondary modern schools as in any other schools in the country?
