I ask leave, Mr. Speaker, to move the Adjournment of the House under Standing Order No. 9 for the purpose of discussing a definite matter of urgent public importance, namely, the effects of the ban, announced this day, upon the advertising of cigarettes on television in continuing and increasing expenditure upon the advertising of cigarettes in other media and in causing redundancy in the tobacco industry without compensation to the persons involved.

The hon. Member asks leave to move the Adjournment of the House under Standing Order No. 9 for the purpose of discussing a definite matter of urgent public importance, namely, the effects of the ban, announced this day, upon the advertising of cigarettes on television in continuing and increasing expenditure upon the advertising of cigarettes in other media and in causing redundancy in the tobacco industry without compensation to the persons involved. I regret that I cannot accede to the right hon. Member's application.
