HC Deb 03 February 1965 vol 705 c1051
3. Lord Balniel

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lanchester whether he will take steps to improve co-ordination in the recruiting, training and allocation of workers for the whole of the social work field in the public services.

Mr. Houghton

If the noble Lord has any particular steps in mind, I will certainly see that they are considered.

Lord Balniel

The right hon. Gentleman is charged with the responsibility of co-ordinating the social services. Would he not agree that a really major reform could be achieved if he could secure a greater degree of co-ordination in the recruiting, training and allocation of child-care officers, probation service officers and health and welfare service officers? Will he give this a very high priority in his general review of the co-ordination of the social services?

Mr. Houghton

The noble Lord has already put Questions to the Minister of Health about his responsibilities in the matter. I can assure him that we shall consider all matters relating to the recruitment and training of staff in this work.
