HC Deb 03 February 1965 vol 705 c1072
27. Mr. Henry Clark

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the payment of the subsidy on the 1960 potato crop to farmers who grew potatoes in Northern Ireland in that year.

Mr. John Mackie

I am sorry I have nothing to add to the Answer I gave to the hon. Member for Mid-Ulster (Mr. Forrest) on 20th January.

Mr. Clark

Would the hon. Gentleman keep in mind that the continued failure to make a decision on this matter is damaging the confidence which previously existed between farmers in Northern Ireland and Ministry of Agriculture officials?

Mr. Mackie

That cannot possibly be the case, because the previous Government took more than four years with this job and we have been only three months and we are nearer to a decision than they were.
