HC Deb 09 December 1965 vol 722 cc575-6
3. Mr. Coleman

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make a statement about future road improvements in the Vale of Neath.

The Under-Secretary of State for Wales (Mr. Harold Finch)

My right hon. Friend proposes to continue westwards the improvement of the A.48 and the Heads of the Valleys Road. The most important new schemes will be the Morriston by-pass, the Glynneath by-pass and a new road between Aberdulais and Llandarcy, costing altogether about £11 million. They should further improve the attractions of South Wales to new industry.

Mr. Coleman

While thanking the Under-Secretary for his reply, may I ask whether he is aware that the completion of these road improvements is of immense importance to the future industrial growth of South Wales? Will he ensure that every effort is made to expedite the completion of these road works which are so vital to the future prosperity of South-West Wales?

Mr. Finch

We shall press on with these schemes, recognising their importance to industry. We shall do all in our power to expedite and complete the work.
