§ 48. Mr. Pounderasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the repayment of post-war credits.
§ Mr. CallaghanI have no statement to make at present.
§ Mr. PounderDoes not the Chancellor appreciate that, 20 years after the end of the war, there is still £224 million worth of post-war credits, plus interest of over £36 million waiting to be repaid? Is it not time that he had some plans to hand this money back to the taxpayer?
§ Mr. CallaghanIf the country's finances had been handed over to us in a better state, I might have been able to make more progress.
