HC Deb 06 December 1965 vol 722 cc11-2
26. Mr. Mawby

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is satisfied that his powers of conciliation are now sufficient and effective; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gunter

This question is discussed in the evidence of the Ministry of Labour to the Royal Commission on Trade Unions and Employers' Associations. I am, of course, giving careful thought to this and related problems.

Mr. Mawby

I thank the right hon. Gentleman for his reply, but is he satisfied that in future the employing side will not be put in a position where it cannot make an alternative offer, and so make abortive his efforts for conciliation?

Mr. Gunter

I am very well aware of the difficulties that are inherent in the attempt of any party to introduce an incomes policy. That is why I am giving careful thought to this and related problems.
