HC Deb 06 December 1965 vol 722 c4
6. Mr. Onslow

asked the Minister of Labour how many vacancies in the United States aircraft industry have officially been registered with employment exchanges in England and Wales since October 1964.

Mr. Gunter

None, Sir.

Mr. Onslow

Is the Minister aware that applicants from the aircraft industry at employment exchanges have been advised of employment opportunities in the Amerian aircraft industry? How does the right hon. Gentleman square that with his Government's expressed desire to see these men employed elsewhere in the United Kingdom industry?

Mr. Gunter

The Question that I was asked was how many vacancies in the United States aircraft industry have officially been registered with employment exchanges in England and Wales. I repeat, the answer is "None". I understand that last October indications were given to employment exchanges of vacancies in the American aircraft industry. I think that 13 British engineers known to be interested in work overseas were told the firms' interest, but none took up employment with them.
