§ 6. Mr. G. Campbellasked the Minister of Transport what review of transport requirements he is undertaking in the Highlands and north-east of Scotland.
§ Mr. Tom FraserI keep these requirements under constant review in consultation with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland. In doing so, we have the benefit of the advice of the Highland Transport Board and of the Scottish Economic Planning Council.
§ Mr. CampbellIn view of the extensive and rapid development of winter sports and the many more people coming into the Highlands during the winter as a result, will the right hon. Gentleman review the position in the light of the changing conditions because of the difficulties of travelling in winter?
§ Mr. FraserI am not very sure what the hon. Gentleman asks me to review. Some of these matters which he wants me to take into account are no doubt the responsibility of the Secretary of State, but together we do our best to ensure that adequate provision is made for the tourists referred to by the hon. Gentleman.
§ Mr. Hector HughesDoes my right hon. Friend realise that the frequency of the transport services is of great importance not only for the purpose of feeding the hungry people in the south of this island but also for the purpose of 1411 assisting the development of trade, industry, commerce and employment in north-east Scotland?
§ Mr. FraserYes, Sir.
