HC Deb 26 April 1965 vol 711 c26
37. Mr. A. Henderson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs when Her Majesty's Government will deposit an instrument of ratification of the amendments of the United Nations Charter enlarging the membership of the Security Council and the Economic and Social Council, in accordance with General Assembly Resolutions.

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (Mr. George Thomson)

A White Paper giving the text of these amendments was laid upon the Table of the House on 8th April. As soon as it has lain upon the Table for the period of twenty-one sitting days prescribed by the Ponsonby Rule, Her Majesty's Government will deposit their instrument of ratification.

Mr. Henderson

Can my hon. Friend give any indication as to when the additions to the Security Council are likely to be made? Will it be at the next meeting of the General Assembly?

Mr. Thomson

Additions to the Security Council and to the Economic and Social Council are expected to be made at the beginning of the next meeting of the General Assembly.
