§ 6. Mr. Hopkinsasked the Paymaster-General whether he is satisfied with the co-ordination of home information services on the subject of Government policy on interest rates; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. HopkinsIs the Minister aware that it is impossible to reconcile the 462 present fact of the credit squeeze with the statements of various Members of his Government to the effect that no credit squeeze exists? If it is not his job to co-ordinate home information services, what is his job?
§ Mr. WiggIf the hon. Member would go to the Vote Office, ask for a copy of HANSARD for 12th November, 1964, and study column 1186, he will find the answer. If he then has any difficulty and sees me I will do my best to help him.
§ Mr. HoggWill the right hon. Gentleman clarify his original Answer? The Question asked whether he was satisfied with interest rates and if he would make a statement. Does his affirmative Answer apply to the first or second part of that Question?
§ Mr. SpeakerOrder. We are off on the wrong foot. The Answer was not concerned with the virtues or lack of virtues of interest rates, but with the co-ordination of home information.
§ Mr. Sydney SilvermanIn view of earlier misunderstandings this afternoon, when my right hon. Friend answers a question, "Are you satisfied", etc., with the word "Yes", will the House be entitled to infer that my right hon. Friend is not going to propose any improvements?
