HC Deb 24 November 1964 vol 702 cc1068-9
25. Mr. Dean

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how many of the total number of water undertakings have arrangements for the payment of water rates at council offices; and how many water undertakings are proposing to withdraw such facilities.

Mr. MacColl

I regret that this information is not available.

Mr. Dean

Would the Minister agree that it is highly desirable for people, particularly for old people who usually pay their rates in cash, that these facilities should continue to be available?

Mr. MacColl

It is really a matter for the local undertaking to make its own arrangements, and I think that it depends on local circumstances as to what is best and most convenient for the people.
