§ The Prime MinisterOn my forthcoming visit to the United States, I expect to call on the Secretary General of the United Nations in New York. Unfortunately, on this occasion, I shall be unable to take part in the proceedings of the United Nations General Assembly. I hope to do so, however, in the New Year.
§ Mr. EvansI thank the Prime Minister for that encouraging reply. When he addresses the United Nations will he reiterate and reaffirm the sentiments which he expressed at the Lord Mayor's Banquet, which were well received in the country?
§ The Prime MinisterWhat I said at the Guildhall—and I hope that I was speaking for the whole House, although I have one or two doubts about that—is the line the Government are taking in United Nations matters. I hope to develop the point further if, as I hope, I can speak there early in the new year. The reason why it was not possible on this occasion to stay longer in New York and to make a speech there is that I felt it right, and I am sure that the whole House will agree, to go on to Canada and have discussions with the Canadian Government before returning to London.
