§ 33. Sir B. Jannerasked the Minister of Health when his Department last notified the Leicester Royal Infirmary of the procedure to be taken with patients in regard to their right to postal votes for the General Election.
§ Sir B. StrossA memorandum was issued to all hospital authorities in 1955. I am sending my hon. Friend a copy.
§ Sir B. JannerDoes not my hon. Friend agree that that is much too long a time before a General Election to expect all hospital officers effectively to carry out their duties in this matter, and will he take steps to ensure that, just before a General Election, hospitals are notified of people's voting rights?
§ Sir B. StrossI shall bear in mind what my hon. Friend has said, but I can tell him that at Leicester Royal Infirmary hospital staff did take action before the last election to acquaint patients of the necessary information. I understand that 113 completed forms of application for postal vote were delivered to the electoral registration office on 1st October.
