§ 11. Miss Quennellasked the Minister of Labour, in view of the decision to raise the school-leaving age by one year, what alteration there will be in the traditional length of apprenticeships.
§ Mr. GodberIt will be some years before the raising of the school-leaving age will take effect. In the meantime, I hope that those responsible in industry will consider what modifications are required in industrial training, taking account both of the raising of the school-leaving age and of other changes in techniques and in the social framework. The establishment of the proposed industrial training boards will assist to this end.
§ Miss QuennellCan my right hon. Friend assist in propelling this consideration to a rather speedier conclusion?
§ Mr. GodberCertainly, I shall use all my endeavours to maintain the pressure on this whole question of apprenticeships. We have got to be ready to look at this matter in a fresh light in view of the changed circumstances of industry today.
