§ 5. Dr. Alan Glynasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs whether he is aware of the practical difficulties, facing those individuals on council housing waiting lists, which result from the redistribuition of boroughs under the London Government Act; and whether he will introduce legislation requiring borough housing authorities to adjust their housing lists so as to take account of this new factor.
§ Sir K. JosephFurther legislation is not needed. Local authorities are solely responsible for the selection of tenants for their own houses, but I am confident that the new London borough councils will take account of any practical difficulties which may arise in setting up their new housing lists. It is my intention to issue general guidance to the new authorities on this subject.
Dr. GlyrWhile thanking my right hon. Friend for that information, may I ask whether he would agree that there is very real difficulty because local authorities have different standards and different priorities? The whole House would welcome it if he could issue a memorandum, which he has suggested, so that the difficulties could be ironed out and the anxieties felt al the moment resolved.
§ Sir K. JosephYes, Sir.
