HC Deb 24 June 1964 vol 697 c391
18. Sir J. Gilmour

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what information he has about the progress of the construction of the Cockenzie power station.

Mr. Campbell

I am informed by the South of Scotland Electricity Board that work is proceeding satisfactorily and to schedule. The Board hopes to have the first of the four sets in operation by 1966.

Sir J. Gilmour

Can my hon. Friend tell me when the work will be completed and the whole station working, and what effect it will then have on the number of people employed in the coal mining industry?

Mr. Campbell

It is hoped to have the station in full production by 1968. It should keep about 5,000 miners employed.
