HC Deb 10 June 1964 vol 696 cc435-6
37. Sir A. Hurd

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether a decision has now been reached on the use to which the installations at Greenham Common are to be put when the United States Air Force hand over this base at the end of this month.

Mr. H. Fraser

There is no Service requirement for the installations at Greenham Common but the possibility of other Government use is still being considered, and I am in touch with the Minister of Housing and Local Government.

Sir A. Hard

Can my right hon. Friend say whether this means that the premises are now on offer to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government and would then, presumably, be turned over to the local housing authorities for use?

Mr. Fraser

The local housing authorities and local planning authorities are being consulted.
