§ 18. Mr. Benceasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received respecting school accommodation in Clydebank; and what steps he proposes taking to provide adequate accommodation.
§ Mr. NobleThe only recent representations have been concerned with a proposal for additional temporary classrooms at Kilbowie Primary School. As my noble Friend explained in her letter of 16th July to the hon. Member, I withheld approval because there are suitable spare school places elsewhere in the vicinity.
§ Mr. BenceMy question was not tabled with reference to that, because I have dealt with that with the Under-Secretary. Is the Secretary of State aware that the County Council of Dunbarton has been negotiating for months with the Ministry of Transport, without any success whatever, to acquire East Clydebank 1410 railway station, which is now closed? Will the right hon. Gentleman intercede with his right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport and get cracking on getting this matter settled so that the County Council of Dunbarton can build school accommodation in Clydebank, thus helping to solve the problems of school accommodation in the county?
§ Mr. NobleI apologise if I misunderstood the purport of the hon. Gentleman's Question, but I am bound to admit that his supplementary question would have been difficult to anticipate. I will certainly speak to my right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport.
